Dialectical behavioural therapy

What is DBT?

DBT is a type to CBT therapy, but it was created for people who experience intense emotions. DBT is aimed at understanding and accepting difficult feelings, learning the skills to manage them and being able to make positive changes in your life. DBT focuses on 4 key skill areas:

1.      Mindfulness – This set of skills focuses your attention on the present, rather than worries about the past or the future.
2.      Distress Tolerance – Learning to improve your tolerance towards accepting negative emotions.
3.      Interpersonal Effectiveness – Learning to ask for things and say no to other people, with respect for yourself and others.
4.      Emotion Regulation – A set of skills that you can use to understand, be more aware and have control over your emotions.

Please note that we do not offer a full DBT program as this requires intensive therapy and a DBT team. We can only offer DBT informed skills work. Contact us if you would like to discuss this further.
