What is CBT?

Unlike other forms of therapy, CBT focuses on the problems you are experiencing in the here and now. CBT helps you define a goal and achieve that goal by changing the way that you think, feel or behave in the hope of changing vicious cycles of thinking. It is underpinned by the theory that your thoughts, feelings, behaviour and physical sensations are interconnected and that it is not the event that causes the problem, but the meanings and thoughts that you attach to it. CBT aims to help you deal with, and understand, overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. In CBT you are supported to change these negative patterns to improve the way that you feel.
